Theoretical and experimental linguistics- typical acquisition and impairments

Director: Arhonto Terzi Professor, Department of Speech and Language Therapy

The research in the lab is conducted under the premises that a proper understanding of the process of language acquisition and the locus of deficits in the case of language impairments is not possible without a good grasp of the constant advances of contemporary linguistic theory.  In turn, the knowledge and insights obtained via the investigation of early and impaired language are always tuned towards informing linguistic theory, in addition to aiming at usefulness for intervention.
■ Linguistic research is concerned with phenomena and properties of the syntactic component, as well as their interaction with morphology, semantics, and pragmatics at the interfaces.
■ Research on impaired populations focuses on individuals with autism, Broca’s aphasia, Parkinson’s disease, and Specific Language Impairment.
